Welcome to the Wake County Housing Justice Coalition!

The Wake County Housing Justice Coalition (WCHJC)’s aim is to address gentrification in Wake County and ensure fair, affordable housing opportunities, especially for impacted residents through grassroots efforts.

We are a coalition consisting of residents (and allies who align with our work) affected by the impact of gentrification, such as that by the hands of the City of Raleigh.

We advocate for the protection of naturally occurring affordable housing for the low-income. To do so, since 2021, the WCHJC has called upon the City of Raleigh to commit to the following:

  1. Moratorium on city-initiated teardowns
  2. New funding NOW for low-income housing repair and rehab
  3. Create an affordable housing oversight task force
  4. Bring the community in; center community voices
